BLK + GRN makes it easier for black women to shop non-toxic beauty products while supporting mindfully curated black-owned brands
I Started BLK+GRN back in 2017 as a safer, cleaner way for Black women to use everyday products that wouldn't be toxic for their health. Prior to then and now, as a a public health professional, I saw firsthand the damaging effects that harmful ingredients and practices have had on black women. I’m passionate about helping our community to cultivate a lifestyle that’s free of artificial ingredients, toxins, and harmful chemicals. These toxic products made for us usually aren’t made to nurture us and have no impact on the financial state of our community. BLK+GRN was created as an all-natural "green" marketplace by all Black artisans, to meet the needs of wellness seekers all while supporting mindful Black owned brands. Most mainstream beauty products contain toxic ingredients that often go undetected by customers. Black women especially are using these products on their bodies every day without being aware of the damaging effects that they have on our health. Parabens (toxins) like PROPYL-, ISOPROPYL-, BUTYL-, AND ISOBUTYL-, found in beauty products have been discovered to encourage the growth of certain types of breast cancer cells even in the smallest amounts. If we aren’t aware of what goes on and into our bodies we’ll continue to attract sicknesses that could have been avoided. It’s SUPER important that we as Black women care for our bodies from the inside out to live healthier, happier lives starting with the beauty products that we use every day. - Dr. Kristian H.
