She is fueled by deep anger and demands respect, at least in the performance venue. When someone is talking in the audience, or gets up to go the bathroom Simone stops the show. Nina Simone faded from the public eye because she made a choice to perform songs only for and about the civil rights movement. Ms. Simone wanted to do more but realized, “All I can do is expose the sickness.”
